Do your buttocks have dimples, cottage cheese, or an orange peel appearance? These are caused by cellulite, and until now, this bothersome condition was difficult to treat. The Center for Dermatology is pleased to be one of the first practices to offer the QWO injectable cellulite treatment in the Westchester area. Dr. Bank was directly involved in the clinical trials of this effective nonsurgical treatment—the first and only FDA-approved injectable cellulite treatment.
Before & After QWO Cellulite Treatment
What is QWO?
QWO is a prescription injectable that is FDA approved for the treatment of moderate to severe cellulite in the buttocks of women.
What causes cellulite?
The following three conditions together cause cellulite dimples to form:
The skin is naturally thin or becomes thin with age.
Fat cells under the skin are bunched together and expand.
Fibrous collagen bands that connect the skin to the underlying tissue thicken and pull the skin down.
Cellulite is more common in women than men. One reason is because women have thinner skin than men.

QWO is made from two kinds of collagenase—enzymes that break down collagen. QWO is thought to work by breaking down the fibrous bands beneath the skin and freeing the skin. QWO also may stimulate the growth of new collagen. The result is a more even layer of underlying fat cells and smoother, more even skin contours.
Who is a good candidate for QWO cellulite treatments?
These injections are FDA approved for women who are:
Age 18 to 78
Of any skin type and ethnicity
Have moderate to severe cellulite of the buttocks
QWO is not a skin tightening treatment, so patients with lax skin on the buttocks may need an additional treatment such as Thermage®.
How are QWO treatments performed?
We perform these simple injections in the office. You will first have the targeted dimples marked while you are standing. Then you will lie face down on the treatment table for the injections. The practitioner will make the injections directly into the cellulite dimples, which takes only about 10 minutes to complete. Patients typically do not experience discomfort during the injections. Once complete, you will remain lying down for an additional 5 to 10 minutes. No downtime is needed, so you can return to your daily activities right away.
What can I expect after a QWO treatment?
The most common side effect of QWO treatments is noticeable bruising at the injection sites that usually resolves within 3 weeks. In most cases, the bruising is most pronounced after the first treatment and decreases with subsequent treatments.
How many QWO treatments will I need?
For optimal results, patients typically need 3 treatment sessions scheduled 3 weeks apart.
How long does QWO keep cellulite away?
Results last at least a year if your weight remains stable.
