Men and women concerned by mild or moderate facial aging now have more options than ever available to help them look their best without surgery. At The Center for Dermatology, Dysport is popular among Westchester–area patients in search of an alternative to BOTOX® Cosmetic or just a simple, quick skin refresh.
Are You a Candidate?
Dysport is an injectable product that reduces the appearance of wrinkles by temporarily relaxing the muscles that cause them. It's especially useful for lines and wrinkles of the upper face, including crow's feet, frown lines, and glabellar lines, which form between the eyebrows. Dysport, which is approved by the FDA, can also be used to minimize neck bands at our Westchester–area practice. Even though both Dysport and BOTOX, have the same active ingredient–a protein called botulinum toxin type A–their consistencies are slightly different, making Dysport a better match for certain patients.
During your initial consultation, your practitioner spends plenty of time discussing specific areas of concern and your desired outcome. This important conversation enables him or her to develop the best course of action for you, which may include Dysport, BOTOX Cosmetic, or even an injectable dermal filler.

Dysport injections take only a few minutes, and most patients are in and out of the office within a half-hour. During this appointment, your practitioner first cleanses your face. He or she then makes a series of several injections in and around the targeted areas of your face. Our injectors' knowledge and experience ensure precise accuracy. We emphasize a light touch and a conservative approach with these products to create results that are as lasting as they are natural-looking. Each injection lasts only a moment and is no more painful than an insect bite.

Your Recovery & Results
Dysport doesn't require downtime or recuperation. Following your appointment, you can get back to your usual activities immediately. However, you should avoid activities that require you to stoop or bend over, as these can impede the distribution of the product beneath your skin. For even results, it's important to keep your head upright for the remainder of the day.
You may notice some redness, swelling, tenderness, or itchiness near your injection sites, but these side effects can be covered with makeup. As your results develop over the course of several days, you'll begin to notice your treated lines and wrinkles fading away, revealing a smoother, younger-looking face.
What's the difference between Dysport and BOTOX?
BOTOX is more well-known than Dysport, but both products are injectable, wrinkle reducing treatments that use the same active ingredient. However, there are some differences between them. One noticeable difference is in their consistencies. Dysport is a bit less viscous than BOTOX, which means it "spreads" farther from the injection site once it's injected. This often makes it more appropriate for treating larger areas.
Once your practitioner reviews your medical history and talks to you about your goals, he or she can make a sound recommendation for you that may include either of these options.
How long will my results last?
Typically, results following a Dysport treatment can last up to 6 months. Eventually, the product is naturally metabolized by your body, and your lines begin to reappear. However, you may visit our practice for an additional treatment to maintain your results for as long as you'd like.
Is it safe to undergo multiple Dysport procedures?
Yes. Dysport, like BOTOX, is approved for cosmetic use by the FDA, and its safety is well-documented. FDA approval means a product has undergone rigorous testing and evaluation by an objective organization to determine that it is safe to use as directed and does what it claims to do. As a patient, one of the most important things you can do to increase the odds of a beautiful result is to choose an experienced medical practitioner to administer injectable treatments.
Because the results of Dysport injections aren't permanent, we routinely perform "touch-up" treatments on patients who have previously undergone Dysport procedures. There is no known risk in undergoing multiple treatments over time with these products, especially if you've never experienced any sort of adverse reaction or allergy. In fact, some research has suggested that regular treatments can permanently reduce some wrinkles. Their solid safety records and measurable results keep these products in demand at The Center for Dermatology year after year.
