Are You a Candidate?
Dysport and XEOMIN are injectable products that reduce the appearance of wrinkles by temporarily relaxing the muscles that cause them. They're especially useful for lines and wrinkles of the upper face, including crow's feet, frown lines, and glabellar lines, which form between the eyebrows. They can also be used to fade neck bands at our Westchester-area practice. Like BOTOX Cosmetic, Dysport and XEOMIN are both approved by the FDA. Although they have the same active ingredient as BOTOX Cosmetic, a protein called botulinum toxin type A, their consistencies are slightly different, making them a better match for certain patients.
During your initial consultation, your practitioner spends plenty of time discussing your specific areas of concern and your desired outcome with you. This important conversation enables him or her to develop the best course of action for you, which may include Dysport, XEOMIN, BOTOX Cosmetic, or even an injectable dermal filler.

Injections with Dysport or XEOMIN are relatively brief, and most patients are in and out of the office within 30 minutes. During this appointment, your practitioner first cleanses your face. He or she then makes a series of several injections in and around the targeted areas of your face. The knowledge and experience of each of our injectors ensures maximum accuracy. We emphasize a light touch and a conservative approach with these products to create results that are as lasting as they are natural-looking. Each injection lasts only a moment and is no more painful than an insect bite.

Your Recovery & Results
Neither Dysport nor XEOMIN requires any sort of downtime or recuperation. Following your appointment, you can get back to your usual activities immediately. However, you should avoid activities that require you to stoop or bend over, as these can impede the distribution of the product beneath your skin. For even results, it's important to keep your head upright for the remainder of the day.
You may notice some redness, swelling, tenderness, or itchiness near your injection sites, but these side effects can be covered with makeup. As your results develop over the course of several days, you'll begin to notice your treated lines and wrinkles fading away, revealing a smoother, younger-looking face.
What's the difference between these products and BOTOX?
BOTOX is the most well-known of these products, but BOTOX, Dysport, and XEOMIN are all injectable wrinkle reducers that use the same active ingredients, so they're quite similar to each other. However, there are some differences between them. One noticeable difference is in their consistencies. Dysport is a bit less viscous than BOTOX, which means it "spreads" and distributes farther once it's injected. This often makes it more appropriate for treating larger areas.
XEOMIN is sometimes called a "naked" product because it contains no additional proteins besides the botulinum toxin. This means it may be appropriate for some patients who have previously had unfavorable reactions to BOTOX or Dysport. Once your practitioner reviews your medical history and talks to you about your goals, he or she can make a sound recommendation for you that may include one or more of these options.
How long will my results last?
Typically, results following a Dysport or XEOMIN treatment can last up to 6 months. Eventually, the product is naturally metabolized by your body, and your lines begin to reappear. However, you may visit our practice for an additional treatment to maintain your results for as long as you'd like.
Is it safe to undergo multiple Dysport or XEOMIN procedures?
Yes. Dysport and XEOMIN are both approved for cosmetic use by the FDA, and their safety is well-documented. When a product is FDA approved, it means it's undergone rigorous testing and evaluation by an objective organization to determine that it is safe to use as directed and does what it claims to do. As a patient, one of the most important things you can do to increase the odds of a beautiful result is to choose an experienced medical practitioner to administer your injectable.
Because the results of these treatments aren't permanent, we routinely perform "touch-up" treatments on patients who have previously undergone Dysport or XEOMIN procedures. There is no known risk in undergoing multiple treatments over time with these products, especially if you've never experienced any sort of adverse reaction or allergy. In fact, some research has suggested that regular treatments can permanently reduce some wrinkles. Their solid safety records and measurable results keep these products in demand at The Center for Dermatology year after year.
